Your Universal Multiboot Installer YUMI lets you create Multiboot Bootable USB Flash Drive that contains multiple operating systems, diagnostic tools, antivirus programs etc. It is an open source and FREE to download and use multi-boot USB creator tool. YUMI is the successor to Multiboot ISOs and it is way more proficient. Multiboot ISOs used the Grand Unified Bootloader or GRUB to boot the files from USB but YUMI makes use of Syslinux. GRUB has an extensive approach but that of Syslinux is minimalistic and much easy. But if the system requires YUMI uses GRUB to boot the ISO files from the USB drive. Although the program is designed as a Linux operating system tool it does support Linux derivatives too. YUMI organizes the content on the USB drive so you can make use of the space on your USB to store other files or data as well.

#How Does YUMI Work?

YUMI lets its user create their custom multiboot UFD which comprises of just the distribution they require, in the order of their installation. Every time YUMI is run there is a new distribution that can be added to the UFD. If YUMI is run from the same location as the ISO files are located in. These files are auto-detected so there is no need for the user to browse for every ISO. Unlisted ISOs should not be added because they might not be booted. Yumi saves all the added distributions in the multiboot folder.  One of the best features of YUMI is that the listed download for the listed Distributions begins automatically. Once you launch YUMI pick your flash drive and you will get a prompt where you will be able to see a list of Distributions along with a checkbox saying, “Download the iso (optional)”. Here you can pick a distribution of your choice by checking on the checkbox beside it. Once you have done this YUMU automatically launches the process of download. You can follow the same process and download all the ISOs that you need to add.

#Benefits of Booting With YUMI

YUMI lets you multi-boot with several operating systems, tools and other programs through a flash drive. Besides just installing an operating system even a live virtual environment can be booted on a system. With Syslinux the work is done much faster without any hassles. It works perfectly for both small and large networks. It is super easy to use YUMI and is just like a USB installer but with more abilities. You can add more than just one distribution to run Live from a Thumb Drive. The same tool also uninstalls the USB bootable distributions.

#How to Use YUMI?

Step 1 – Download and Run Yumi: The best thing about this software is, it doesn’t need any setup to install in your computer. To run this software, you’ll just have to download it from its official website and then double-click on it to make it ready to perform. Link: https://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/ Step 2 – Selecting USB Drive: After when the software is running, now you’ll need to plug your USB Storage Device and then select it on the software’s home screen. Select your Pendrive in the ‘Select the Drive Letter of your USB Device’ menu; And in case, If you didn’t find your drive in that list, then you can also check the “Show All Drives?” mark and that will show you all attached drive on your computer.

Step 3 – Formatting: Formatting is important, so make sure you take a proper backup of all your USBs Data because this software will need to format the drive for every first boot. Its only one-time formatting and after that, you can add whatever software as much as your Flash Drive’s Storage support. Just check the ‘Format’ option on the right-side menu and that will automatically erase your pendrive before making your drive bootable.

Step 4 – Adding First Software or OS: To add some software or an operating system, first, you have to make sure that you have a proper ‘.iso’ file of that OS or bootable Software. I’m only saying this because Yumi only supports “.iso Files” for the boot transfer. Now, select the second step option and look for the Software/OS what you wanted to make it bootable in your pendrive. After that browse, the Software/OS .iso file on your computer by using third step option, then click on create and that’s it.

Step 5 – Adding Second Software/OS: Yumi can also be used for the single boot transfer only, but who what’s one. After when the Yumi get done with the first transfer, a pop-up will appear on the screen where you can select the option to add more ‘.iso files’ on the USB stick.

By clicking on “Yes” the software will take you to the Main Menu again where you just only need to repeat the whole steps again (for the second .ISO), but this time you really don’t need to re-format your drive again (just skip the forming part for every next boot transfer). After making the drive bootable, to use it, you’ll just need to change the Boot Setting in BIOS for your USB Stick or you can just quick Boot it from the BIOS’ Boot Menu.
